Scottsdale School Board Members Unanimously Approve the Purchase of GENESIS™
Foothill Ranch, CA

During the regular meeting of the Scottsdale Public School’s Governing Board on January 25, 2005, Board Members unanimously approved the purchase of a new web-based Student Information System named GENESIS. GENESIS is an administrative software application that is written and marketed by Edupoint Educational Systems of Mesa, Arizona, a privately held corporation that specializes in K-12 technologies. Mr. Ernie Nicely, Director of Technology Services for the school district, gave his final presentation to the Board that evening followed by a unanimous vote its members. Approval was greeted with great pleasure by Scottsdale Unified School District staff members attending the meeting, many of whom had participated in the selection and approval of the GENESIS product.

The district plans to follow an aggressive implementation plan to phase out their existing SASIxp* educational software. Mr. Nicely stated that a new web-based application was needed to replace their legacy system to better manage data and ensure accurate state reporting of student information. One of the district’s primary challenges with SASIxp was to aggregate data distributed throughout the district at individual school sites. SASIxp was originally designed as a site-based application that allowed each school building to maintain its own student database.

The new GENESIS product uses a single, centralized database and utilizes and intuitive user interface that is similar in look and feel to many Microsoft applications. This new, leading edge product will eliminate the issue of duplicate student records as well as ease the process of centralized, district reporting. GENESIS also makes it possible for the district to more effectively communicate with parents by providing readily available and secure access to student information from the Web.
